How to improve your mornings

I have never been a morning person. Sleeping in has always been something I’ve cherished. As much as I’d love to spend the whole day in bed (who wouldn’t?) I do have errands to do and Dutch homework to complete! So how can I roll out of bed with a smile on my face? With a few methods that I use to make my mornings brighter!

Wake up with music
Waking up to an alarm is not only jarring, it has the possibility to make you cranky as soon as you hear it. Instead I have gentle music on my phone. I use it as my alarm so that I can wake up slowly and calmly. Of course once I’m out of bed I turn on something a little more energetic and get ready for my day while having some fun with singing my favorite lyrics. I feel happier and ready to embrace the day ahead of me. It really made a different in my morning routine.

Nourish yourself
It’s easy to sit back and grab something sugary and sweet for that quick morning jump start. I used to be in the same boat! But now I start my mornings with a warm bowl of oatmeal and a huge cup of tea. If I want something sweet to have I add something light, a spoonful of honey. This way I can have both a filling, healthy breakfast that’s tasty and sweet.

Rehydrate with water
I do my best to drink a lot of water in the mornings to help jump start my body. In the summer I drink 24oz. of cold water and in the winter I aim for 8oz. of hot water. Of course you should be drinking water all day but there’s something about having water right after you wake that feels refreshing. It’s probably because we spend 8 hours on sleep mode!

Go for a walk
I’m thankful that I have Booker and Haru otherwise it would be so hard to get out of the house! After I eat breakfast I leash them up and we go out for a walk. It doesn’t have to be a long walk. As the mornings get warmer our walks gets shorter but just being outside is wonderful sometimes. Do make sure that the ground isn’t too warm for your dog’s feet. If you can’t rest your hand on it without it being too hot, it’s going to be too hot for your dog. Keep to the grassy areas! Even if you don’t have a dog it’s nice to take a short walk after you eat. It will help aid in digestion. The fresh also doesn’t hurt!

Open all the windows
I love sitting down to work and having a cool breeze in my face. After our morning walk, I take the time to open all the curtains and windows. Of course this isn’t possible if it’s raining and freezing outside. At the very least, aim to open the curtains. Letting in that extra light does wonders for your mental state. I know I’d rather have the sun (even if there’s very little of it) streaming in instead of having my desk lamp on.
