Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites: July 12 2019

This is going to be a new feature here! I spend a lot of time online and I figured it would be perfect to share my favorites from the week every Friday. I’ve been a bit counter productive this week but I’m worrying about my Dutch grades. I know there’s nothing I can do now but it’s still getting to me a bit. So instead let’s focus on the positives!

Video
I’ve been watching Best Dressed for a year now and she’s always got fantastic content. Her most recent video on how to find your style and the confidence to wear it got me sit down and think about all the choices I’ve made in life. She’s got beautiful, solid advice for anyone looking to develop some fashion happiness. I’m 31 this year and I still struggle with a fashionable wardrobe and self confidence. It’s refreshing to see someone so young share her take on self confidence.

Music
One of my favorite bands has a new album coming out in 2 weeks. Of Monsters and Men has been a favorite of mine for years. If I compared all the albums I’ve listened to over the years they would be on top. Today they dropped another single, Wild Roses from it and I love it! Their Instagram and an email spoke about this song and it’s inspiration. “The song shows an introverted side to the album and is influenced by a bit of dance music and Joseph Campbell’s ‘The Power of Myth’ and what it is like to lean into your sadness.” I love when artists share their inspiration. It allows me to look into their sources and place myself in their shoes. OMAM has taken a new direction full of life and color and I can’t wait to hear the rest of their newest work.

Fashion
I picked up this beautiful turmeric yellow shirt that’s oversized and perfect for summer. The cut is flattering especially when tucked into high waisted shorts. I’ve been wearing it any chance I get because the color is so bright! The weather has returned to its usual gloomy mood so this shirt lightens the mood. I pair it with my denim jacket and I’m ready to hit the town for a day of book shopping!

Design
I was going through my personal Instagram feed for some art inspiration and found Ipad Lettering.com. I’ve been searching for resources to help me up my handwriting game and this website has some great free items for that. I downloaded some new brushes for the App Procreate and I can’t wait to try them out.

Books
I recently rediscovered the Famous Five books series that my parents read to me when I was a child. I’ve only been able to get my hands on a few of these simple and amazing books but it’s such a nice visit down memory lane. I hope that someday I can find more of them but until then I’ll hang onto what I’ve found!
